Arts & Furniture of East Tennessee by Namuni Hale Young
I love these catalogs about Southern regional furniture, in fact I like anything about the south. This is a must have for anyone who deals in southern decorative arts. Incredible reference points to Tennessee furniture, Some of the most unusual examples. Including those high style pie safes. It covers case goods, looking glasses, tables, and some very nice pieces of art that could have held its own it a separate showing. I'm pleased to see that many examples resemble those of Kentucky. A nice touch is that they list the genealogy of these pieces a bit that is often overlooked in some catalogs. The front has an introduction from C. Tracy Parks who was co - author of the now famous Art and Mystery of Tennessee Furniture.
This soft backed catalog was published by East Tennessee Historical Society in 1997. Contains 113 pages and is fully indexed. Most of the photos are b/w with the furniture and fine arts openings having a few pages of color shots. Sadly these color shots are a little grainy and out of focus.
I found several copies of this title online. Prices ranged from as low as $78.00 to as high as $275.00. Remember when it comes to these small / limited printings to get them when you can. This is a perfect example, as a friend of mine stole this copy at a local show. I had to borrow this edition but I'll be looking for a copy for my own library. Very recommended for those researching Southern items.
