Style is The Season

Twentieth-Century Decoration by Stephen Calloway

I'm not much for design. I prefer to study the object as opposed to its surroundings. But this book is a little different though. Chapters are broken into the various periods of the twentieth century. You'll explore staged and candid photos that range from the middle class to the upper ranks of royalty from all over the world. There are examples of artists renderings, representations of living from art works and stunning photographs. Each photo will have a caption that tells of the design and the designer. Sadly, just by its context, I don't get to find out the story of some piece that is featured. But that could be the same story with any other shelter book or magazine.

A lavish, quality volume with the vast majority of this book devoted to period black and white and some color photos. 408 numbered pages. Published by Rizzoli New York in 1988. I wouldn't quite say that its a must own for the appraiser but certainly worthy of reading, enjoying and living on your shelves. I was pleased that I got my x-libris copy from a library book sale. Hence the smudge on the cover. Amazingly, I found this online for under $25.00 to as high as over $200.00.
